Ingrown Hairs / Folliculitis
About Ingrown Hairs / Folliculitis
What is it?
Ingrown hairs / folliculitis are common skin conditions in which hair follicles become damaged and inflamed. It’s usually caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. At first, it may look like small red bumps or white-headed pimples around hair follicles — the tiny pockets from which each hair grows.
Ingrown hairs / folliculitis are common skin concerns that can cause redness, irritation, and discomfort. They occur when hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin, often leading to painful bumps. Folliculitis develops when hair follicles become inflamed or infected, resulting in clusters of red or pus-filled bumps. Both conditions may appear after shaving, waxing, or friction from clothing, and while often mild, they can sometimes become persistent or spread if untreated.
